Howard Schottenstein of Markpoint Named BIA’s 2010 Builder of the Year

Howard Schottenstein, president of Markpoint Development, was awarded the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Central Ohio’s prestigious Irving E. Schottenstein Builder of the Year Award at their annual Inaugural Celebration and Awards Ceremony held December 3, 2010.

“Each year this award is given to the builder who has done the most to maintain professional excellence and encourage the American dream of home ownership,” said BIA Executive Director Jim Hilz. “We were proud to choose Howard because he exemplifies these principles.”

Schottenstein served as BIA president in 2006. He is a past winner of the BIA’s coveted Baldy, Esper, Jones Award.

“It’s a very great honor to receive the Builder of the Year Award and be included with the other builders who have achieved it in the past,” said Schottenstein.

Hilz said that Schottenstein’s versatility has allowed him to tackle a wide range of building projects.

Schottenstein founded Markpoint Development in 1980. Markpoint works on projects that include home remodeling and additions; commercial building remodeling and construction; custom home building and condominium building.

Markpoint’s condo communities include The Ravines at McNaughton, a 40-acre development on Columbus’s eastside, and Stoney Bluff Condominiums in Lithopolis.

A past president of the Bexley Area Chamber of Commerce, Schottenstein was named Bexley Citizen of the Year in 2000. In 2004 he won the Bexley City Schools’ Friends of Education Award. Schottenstein is a longtime Charity Newsies volunteer.
